  @juergen_hubert@mementomori.social A decentralized peer-reviewed publishing system which breaks the power of the academic publishing industry. We *desperately* need an alternative to conventional journals given how much they abuse their power to extract free labor from academics. Additionally, the reputation can stem from who reviews your papers rather than which journal it is published in. This would also mean that all peer reviews are *public*. 1/?

  Not enough people are talking about the rationale for systemd introducing the age field in userdbd (which is *not* mandatory and currently fully *optional*). In the very post here, it is clear that they are doing it because xdg-desktop-portal(!) is adding an age verification thingy (and potentially also accountsservice).   More on Proton: I find it very funny how Proton gets reamed by people when they reveal exactly what they are forced to reveal by a Swiss court (and nothing more). The same people claim Tutanota is better and, like...no. They will *also* comply with German court orders (and Swiss courts tend to overall be more skeptical, especially of requests originating overseas like this one). 1/?
