@cy @Susan60 @Maker_of_Things yeah, the way nursing homes are paid for in the UK the poorer you are the more likely you are to be able to afford one.
The hardest hit are working people who bought a home in the 70's or 80's and have a lot of equity in it but that is the majority or entirety of the estate they want to pass onto their children.
We can't afford to inherit the MIL's home as it would mean losing our council home for a place too small for the family :)

@naturepunk @cy @Maker_of_Things We’ve helped out our kids financially, but whatever they inherit will be a bonus. I do have concerns about my oldest who can no longer work full time due to post-Covid health issues, but am otherwise not fussed about leaving an inheritance for my kids or partner’s. They’ll probably get one unless we end up existing for a decade or 2 in some high priced aged care facility (which seems increasingly likely.)
