I couldn't afford a nursing home, myself. Also can't afford to buy farmland, or a tractor. Our situations may be a little different.

@cy @Susan60 @Maker_of_Things yeah, the way nursing homes are paid for in the UK the poorer you are the more likely you are to be able to afford one. The hardest hit are working people who bought a home in the 70's or 80's and have a lot of equity in it but that is the majority or entirety of the estate they want to pass onto their children. We can't afford to inherit the MIL's home as it would mean losing our council home for a place too small for the family :)
