The opening feels like a guide for some work to be done: "This sets up a self-oscillating system that modulates the airflow creating the sound." In seriousness, there’s something especially neat in the fact that the syrinx sits at the bifurcation of the breath, where one stream becomes two voices. Birds quite literally embody counterpoint! (?)
