the zine never mentions engagement in legislative politics as a way to resist the co-option of technology for surveillance and control once again, the "politics is dirty" narrative. by not even bothering to discuss meaningful engagement in legislative politics, the authors dismiss this as a tactic. not unique to this zine and sadly not unique in leftist circles (i speak as a person enthusiastically engaged with such circles) (5/12)

the zine makes a statement that "tech stacks" have become so complex that they're impossible to understand for individuals this is a defeatist narrative and blocks out another radical tactic, namely using and reproducing computational stacks that are understandable and auditable cooperation between tinkerers can achieve magnificent things. including "understanding tech stacks". not all devices have to be powered by monolithic code with a decade of technical debt (6/12)

@catileptic Politics *is* dirty, AND, if you want to clean the political stables, you have to find *some way* to move the manure. Yes, you *can* be all "radical" and work outside the system but it works *better* if you use _all_ available avenues of progress. Just choosing the "cleanest" one, the one that means you don't have to *engage* with ... anyone... limits progress and subjects one to a single point of failure. I don't have to tell you that's Bad. tl;dr vehement agreement with your viewpoint, and I love the idea of working towards _collective_ knowledge of How Stuff Works with an eye towards finding several ways to do a thing so that one can choose what works best _for oneself_.
