@ticho @lritter And just to be clear, none of that is me saying there's nothing of value to find in Firefly or that there aren't valid readings and useful insights to be found when viewing it through the lens of other influences and historic events.

@Cheeseness @ticho i'm btw no firefly "fan". i watched it but it's not stuck in my head as a formative experience. i only defend storytelling and art in general. stories thrive on conflict. i acknowledge that details such as the one you named invite to confront real world trauma, and i'm not always ready for it either. perhaps firefly is indeed presently not what this time needs. sometimes there are days when i can only stand to listen to purely instrumental music.
