@lritter @ticho Yes, that's what I was trying to get at, I think? Firefly didn't have time to explore much of it's themes/narrative conceits - we saw a fraction of a glimpse of what the show could have been, and I don't know/can't say where it could have gone.
Where two and a half decades ago, I thought "oh, that's some fascinating juxtaposition," today, I find it less impressive, there's an awkward blank spot that I don't have to squint hard to see the shape of stuff I'm not into.

@Cheeseness @lritter What's changed since then? I mean, the American Civil War happened two centuries ago, what's changed in those two decades since Firefly came out that changed how you view it? It can't be the current political and cultural bankruptcy in the USA, the situation doesn't really map onto the ACW motives.
