I think Hegseth quoting fake bible passages from Pulp Fiction, presumably because he doesn&#39;t know they&#39;re made up, perfectly illustrates the role of religion in right wing extremist politics. It&#39;s a tool to control the masses. Nothing more. In that respect, I am in 100% agreement with the pope. I&#39;m an atheist, but I grew up in a Christian community. US and Israeli violence is not in line with the core message. (Although there are people in my old community who supports them.) #USPol #Fascism

This analysis captures most of what I've been thinking. I didn't mention how these extremists see wars tie into their endtime theology, which the article also covers, but I'm familiar with it.
