@lcamtuf@infosec.exchange saw your book and wanted to ask you: would it be a good resource for someone that wants to learn to build electronics from *almost* scratch? i’ve built a handful of arduino projects but that was a long time ago and cannot recreate them, but i’ve been a programmer for a long while and started with processing, arduino and raspberry pi, so not a complete neophyte. also, if it is not, what would be a good place where to start? thanks.

kids are the future, and they build the future, because they’re not all day thinking about the past and trying to revive it. no matter what one wants to bring back, it is the bringin it back what ruins our present. either one accepts what it is, or one finds ways to improve it, but the past is past because it was not better than what we have. whoever thinks otherwise is really blinding themselves to see what the the better things the present has.

also remember that for every privileged person trying to bring the past back—because that is what wanting to bring the past is, privilege—hundred of thousands are living a better life today with more access to water, better food, clean air, decent work, freedom from indented servitude, dignity, health, and love. no matter how one suffers today, the world has never been a better world in total.

i find it amusing when people think that we *hear* with our ears. that would be akin to thermometres *feeling* temperature. we receive soundwaves through our ears but it’s our brain that “hears”. what keeps me up at night is that if those people did not have religion they would believe science, since it would be either scientific knowledge or nothing, and people never choose nothing.

almost all religions propose a system where one is—to a high degree—able to choose not to be directly responsible of what happens around oneself, and we wonder why so many don’t care or don’t do much about the current state of the world, let alone their own communities.

i think what we need here in the u.s. is “free” (state-run) healthcare and a month of “vacation” (holidays) every year. most european countries have both and they have less billionaires mostly because most people there are happy with a small boat and don’t need a 28736-feet-long one, and have almost no mass shooting every decade, and i bet it’s all because most are healthy and had some summer rest.
