*Something* should always happen. In a Forged in the Dark style system for example, enemies never roll dice, because their successes are triggered by the character’s failures. A simple idea that completely removes the “nothing happened” outcome on both sides of the equation. So much more elegant

@sinbad I like this philosophy, but I also wonder stuff. Can a miss not just be a miss? If you throw something at someone, does that mean if you miss then they hit you?

@sinbad On the other hand, is a miss really "nothing?" If you moved, that movement happened without a roll and you're still in that position no matter what the dice say. This might result in pulling aggro/attacks your way that might have gone elsewhere, for good or ill. The failed attack might also reveal some information. Did you get a decent roll, but not hit the AC? Is there a way you can get a bigger bonus or inflict a penalty for next time? Did you do damage it's resistant or immune to?
