@mastodonmigration @felipeB @lisamelton It's not a great video at all. Guy is an absolute ignoramus. 1. Cooling: Space cooling systems exist, they are super efficient. 2. Serviceability: China has at least three under water submersible data centres, going for 2-3 years 3. Power: Stand alone, no angry provincials 4. There is a single test inference engine in orbit right now. Since December. Doing a lot of heavy lifting for "impossible" The reason to put #datacentres in space is to avoid the angry mobs when they come.

@n_dimension @mastodonmigration @felipeB @lisamelton #2 - have they actually serviced it? During microsofts' test, nothing was serviced, they just left the dead ones (only 6 out of 855 apparently!) down there: https://www.itpro.com/infrastructure/data-centres/microsoft-scrapped-its-project-natick-underwater-data-center-trial-heres-why-it-was-never-going-to-work Unfortunately I can't find the article now, but part of the reason for the reliability of Microsofts' underwater dc was because no-one was allowed to fiddle with anything 🤣
