@ianthetechie Interesting, thanks for writing it up. I'm just setting up my first HomeLab and so far have a single node running Proxmox which you probably know is Debian. I've never used BSD but have the impression over the years that it comes with difficulties.
I've not decided on how to do remote access/security but am averse to using any third party services including VPS. Short term that's not critical but longer term I'll want that to be strong.
I'll look out for your posts with interest.

@happyborg yeah, Proxmox is great. I may do some more with VMs later but trying to keep it pretty straightforward and declarative as much as possible. I would say every OS comes with its own difficulties 😅 I like the tradeoffs BSDs give particularly for my personal projects. Depending on your needs though, it’s challenging because most cloud vendors don’t have any sort of auto scaling solution outside k8s :/
