    @jaz @evan @benpate I would add, in regards to 'Signal has 50 employees", that Mastodon does not. And there's a lot of things that need fixing and improving already without having to solve E2EE messaging. Something, something, resourcing. But whatever, it is what it is. I'm sure it'll be fine. It just sounds like a lot of work for not a lot of reward. 🙃

    @jaz@toot.wales @evan@cosocial.ca @benpate@mastodon.social Makes a lot of sense. Admins should be able to opt out with a feature flag. You should never be obligated to have your servers be a pass through for encrypted messages if you prefer not to. Thinking about that: would be nice if you could opt-in for private messages going just one to one, like for "fidonet Netmail one to one communication" (for anybody remembering Fido) but opt out of encrypted community chats you can not monitor.
