Today I learned that the green and white swirly arrow doesn’t mean “recyclable”, it means “paid into recycling scheme”. That feels misleading to me.

@arafel@mas.to yup and the recycling triangle embossed in many plastics is the Resin Identification Code, and only some numbers correspond to recyclable materials (Wikipedia lists 1, 2, and 5 as commonly recyclable curbside.)

@arafel yes, they pay licensing fees for every badge on the packaging Vegan Society badges, Sustainability badges, etc. It's really about whether you trust the people behind whatever badge

@arafel @purplepadma Yes it’s the triangle of arrows thats meant to indicate recyclable but if it’s plastic even this is sketchy and misleading. Great explanation about it on the documentary “Buy Now”
