The red maple blossoms have laid siege to our house; they come inside at every opportunity: little red stars with a glitter of yellow pollen at the center.

A star is actually not the shape of a single maple spawn, now that I've had a closer look. They're actually a spray of four buds on stalks connected at the bottom, with little yellow pollen heads on the tops. Sometimes the bases of the stalks are also connected. Flowers are complicated.
