I'm sorting some #electronic #components and found these. I'm not sure what they are, they seem very ancient. Nothing written on them, but they are color-coded (like modern resistors). Anyone has a clue?

    @penguin86 Might be capacitors. They used color codes for all kinds of components way back in the day. There were quite a few different "standards" over the years so it’s sometimes not too easy to figure out what the components actually are. (I’ve encountered very colorful capacitors and some oddly coded coils so far).

    @penguin86 @smellsofbikes capacitors, old (1980s) versions of the dick smith catalog printed the color code in the data section but i’ve never seen them in the wild.     @penguin86 Maybe coil? In which case, the color code would indicate the inductance. I recommend measuring resistance. Then you can distinguish if it's capacitor or inductor.

    @penguin86 I remember seeing these electronic components exactly as pictured in cheap consumer transistor radios. The didn't have the appearance of the shining beacon of quality with their level of application, but they were mildly aesthetic works of art and I observed no failures.

    @penguin86 All capacitors, the bulbous blobby ones are probably tantalum capacitors, the tubular one is a ceramic capacitor. Edit: Actually they all might be ceramic capacitors, I have just remembered that I have some pF value ceramic capacitors that look just like them
