@maxleibman I love this insight and while I was teaching at the university I hated how many professors resorted to using videos.

@maxleibman In the early 80s we hoped it was a video because we could be 95% sure the overworked VHS machine would chew the tape and we'd just sit there watching the teacher figure out how to spool it back in and make it work...

@maxleibman Wow, this rings _sooooo_ true! Funny story: My high school had no "walls" or "doors" -- just wheeled sections of "cubbies" (think shoe box size "lockers" with no doors), about shoulder height, arranged into "rooms" like one might do with cubicles -- so it didn't necessarily even have to be your class watching a movie if you wanted to just listen in on a movie instead of class!

@maxleibman Random people in late 1990s: I want to share my knowledge with people online. I guess geocities is easiest. Random people in early 2020s: I want to share my knowledge with people online. I guess youtube is easiest.

@maxleibman Went to school in the 1970s We had no videos, but occasionally a teacher would bring an educational super8 film to class. The high point was when, at the end of it, we tried to make the teacher run the whole thing backwards instead of just rewinding it. It didn't always work, but oh the fun when it did. 📽️

@maxleibman Also, websites that use video rather than documents to explain stuff. So much harder to skim video.
