I've wondered about this and have no idea even though I'm on the edge of projects that are actively making changes that are claimed to protect against quantum cryptography. So I have assumed there are measures available, but do not know if they are making their way into any of the places they are needed to protect web and internet, it anywhere else. It's Y2K with no date. Hoping you'll shed some light (and that your back is much better - walking the dog helps mine a lot).

@mariafarrell@mastodon.social Me too. I am considering going back to using carrier pigeons at the moment. Perhaps the other things is how well will current encryption algorithms stand up the stupendous computing power that the data centres built to power AI now have. That is, ignoring the current state of AI and other future possible ways to attack encryption.

@mariafarrell@mastodon.social it's a while since I thought about this sort of thing so I am probably out of date. But the availability of pqc made me think that exploits at the transport layer will be fixable quickly, once it is widely known to be a problem. Knowing is, of course, a challenge, but it seems to me that gaining access to realtime data is only important if you are going to use it pretty soon, at which point you risk detection. I'm still concerned about encrypted data at rest though!
