Subaru took the Outback, a wagon that appealed to women, turned it into a boxy macho-style SUV despite the company's own focus groups telling them not to change it, and raised the price by $5000, and now is astonished that sales of it have nosedived: https://www.autoblog.com/news/subaru-ditched-the-wagon-and-outback-sales-dropped-over-40

@vwestlife@mastodon.social While still a crossover, but the new Trailseeker EV is more like an Outback than the new Outback. Plus, the Trailseeker is known as the E-Outback in various regions 😅

  • @vwestlife@mastodon.social I hate what Toyota’s involvement with Subaru is producing.

@vwestlife@mastodon.social I know some butches, but I don't think I've met a single one that would be caught dead in this tacticool suburban cosplay.

@vwestlife@mastodon.social Yup. Have and love a 2024 Crosstrek. Might’ve considered an upgrade to an Outback, but that thing is not an Outback. I hear it’s a decent machine. Should’ve just been the new Forrester.

  • @vwestlife@mastodon.social Not every vehicle needs to look like office furniture on wheels. C’mon design people, get it together!

@vwestlife@mastodon.social I own a 2025 Outback, my 2nd Outback, but can’t stand the look of the new design and will never buy another as long as they keep that type of design.

@vwestlife@mastodon.social Boo! The Outback wagon had long been one of my fantasy rides.

  • @vwestlife@mastodon.social Sorry, Subaru, but we loathe SUVs here, and won't buy one regardless of size or platform.

  • @vwestlife@mastodon.social Ha!! They are getting what they deserve, and yes the “newest models” look very “over the top” to me, making them unnecessarily *huge* for very little benefit (and particularly detrimental for gas mileage and pedestrian safety)

@vwestlife@mastodon.social yes all the macho men want a new WRX STI, not an Outback. I wonder how they did not know this.

@vwestlife@mastodon.social I love the Outback and have been looking for a good used one to trade my Legacy in on. I had an 03 Outback and when I called one of the mid teens one a Station Wagon I was corrected that it's an SUV. The new ones look like trash.

@vwestlife@mastodon.social and as a result of all this, it's now looking too much like a guy's "commercial grade" SUV Hummerish looking thing....what the hell.
