People literally used to bury cars to get rid of them when they no longer worked. I remember discussing this with a chap from a local village and he seemed to know quite a few spots where cars had been buried.
This though, is both spectacular and disturbing.

@Alternatecelt@mastodon.scot Context is everything. The setting, plus the fact that it's cars, gives the scene a surreal quality. It has an archaeological feel to it. A similar heap of trashed cars in the open air would just be an eyesore.

@Alternatecelt@mastodon.scot I didn't realise this was a real thing, even though @JulietEMcKenna@wandering.shop used something very similar in her book The Green Man's Gift. I'm fascinated by the research some authors do. It's guiltily beautiful.
