Anyone out there have a suggestion of a way to share something directly somewhere that isn’t platform specific? For example, if I find a link on my iPhone that I want to share to my PC but I’d like to find a way to just put it somewhere I can access anywhere, Mac, PC or even an Android phone? I also use Apple Notes but that is also platform specific unless you’re prepared to fight with iCloud on PC, and I’m not. I know there are a lot of options for this kind of thing but I’m wanting to get the blind take on it. #Blind #BlindTech

@stevenscott tbh I just send myself a whatsapp message. I am logged in to whatsapp on iOs, whatsapp for web on other devices. Works pretty well

@stevenscott If its a file, I either use cloud storage like dropbox if I don\t know where the file should go, or tailscale taildrop to send the file to any of my devices. taildrop works like airdrop but on all the platforms tailscale exists.

@technocounselor @stevenscott You can send files to your tailscale devices. I like seafile for a selfhosted dropbox solution, but that might be overkill for you.

@stevenscott Just WhatsApp it to yourself as you can create a personal WhatsApp WhatsApp conversation just for yourself therefore it’ll show up on any device you’re logged into using WhatsApp, or you could use Slack or even Instapaper.

@stevenscott I use Syncthing. It syncs folders between devices similar to something like Dropbox, but it does not store anything in the cloud; the folders are synced directly between your devices. It runs on Windows, MacOS, and Linux, and there is also the Synctrain app for iOS and the Syncthing-Fork app for Android. It can sync over the internet as well so your devices do not have to be on the same network. I can just send a file to the Files app on iOS, choose a folder that I sync with Syncthing, and then press save and it will sync. Opening the Synctrain app after doing this will make it sync faster though because background sync does not run all the time.

@stevenscott I use a "note to self" in Signal. It works pretty well, though it's really best for quick "I want to open this link on a desktop later" or "I have a thing on my desktop and want to have it available on my phone" type stuff. Like looking through the website of a brick and mortar store, if I find a specific thing to then go and try to buy in person, I'll send myself a quick screenshot or the SKU or something, so I have it at hand.
