I suspect this is evidence of a short in the backyard garden lights, but if somebody who knows better than me, you can confirm. I’ll know what I’m tackling next.

@dcbuchan@aus.social not sure but for my garden lights, that seems to occur when moisture gets into the cable.

@dcbuchan@aus.social Corrosion, definitely. Might only be at the cut end, so chop a small bit off the end and check (if a slightly shorter lead, say two or three inches, would still work for you). Or replace.

@dcbuchan@aus.social nope, that looks like galvanic corrosion. A short would result in melting of the PVC sheath on both wires equally. Running DC in a wet environment will do that I think, which is why older lights stuck with AC. It shouldn’t necessarily be a problem immediately? You can clean the oxide off with solvent or abrasive
