@dcbuchan@aus.social nope, that looks like galvanic corrosion. A short would result in melting of the PVC sheath on both wires equally.
Running DC in a wet environment will do that I think, which is why older lights stuck with AC.
It shouldn’t necessarily be a problem immediately? You can clean the oxide off with solvent or abrasive
