Years ago, I heard a bit of local folklore that calls for 'three more snows' after the first robin is seen. As you might know, I have a small obsession with recording weather data, so I have actually been keeping track of this for the past few years. Turns out, it's about 4 or 5 snows, if you only count the ones that "stick." Maybe the story comes from a bit farther south? Regardless of perfect accuracy, I still think it's a great marker for the seasonal rythm. If I can listen to the robins singing to each other at dawn and dusk, then I know I only have to bear a handful of more snows until it warms up.
