Bored as shit this evening and a video by The 8-Bit Guy popped up on YT. I had decided a while back to stop watching his stuff after I found out he's quite possibly a MAGAt, and definitely is a conservative troll. Anyway I thought, "eh, it wouldn't hurt to see what he came up with for this one" as I'm a sucker for retrocomputing and such. It was about visiting the Usagi Electric guy to talk about a what-if scenario where transistors and ICs were never invented so we still used vacuum tubes and core memory for computing. Well folks, why was I not surprised to see "AI" generated images throughout (though to his credit he captioned them as such) and at the end on the way home he had discussions with Grok and ChatGPT in his self-driving Tesla about the scenario posed in the video and talked to both LLMs as if they were real people. Yeah, fuck that guy. I want my 23 minutes back.

  • @kaidenshi yesterday I did read on fediverse that he's a fascist walking around with an assault rifle as open carry and destroying retro hardware instead of restoring it. So I unsubscribed. How lucky that I did not click on that video.

@kaidenshi i've been watching him for around a decade now and i was really disappointed by his video. i'm hoping the backlash will be strong enough that he acknowledges that he shouldn't have used AI in his video. the tesla video was a pretty big red flag as well but based on things he's said regarding the video it seemed like he was at least politically neutral. it's still lingered in my mind for a while and now i really don't know what to do. his videos are basically what got me into retro computing and i really would hate to stop watching, but i might not have a choice unless he acknowledges what he did was wrong
