Alright, does anyone have any book recommendations? I'm specifically looking for horror.

    @BlackAzizAnansi Just read and loved “The Elementals” by Michael McDowell. Wrote the screenplays for Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas, but this is more serious writing about how weird old southern white families are. Most authentic I’ve ever felt to being an outsider to my Mississippi relatives (who we’re poorer but still considered themselves fallen aristocrats 🙄). Made me want to read the rest of his books; “The Amulet” is bleaker but also rules!

    @BlackAzizAnansi @zazzoo I found Tchaikovsky's Children of Time too horrifying for me (too much spider!) Had to put it down. It's also #scifi.

    @BlackAzizAnansi there are some horror elements to A Cosmology of Monsters > Noah Turner sees monsters. > His father saw them—and built a shrine to them with The Wandering Dark, an immersive horror experience that the whole family operates. > His practical mother has caught glimpses of terrors but refuses to believe—too focused on keeping the family from falling apart. > And his eldest sister, the dramatic and vulnerable Sydney, won’t admit to seeing anything but the beckoning glow of the spotlight . . . until it swallows her up. > Noah Turner sees monsters. But, unlike his family, Noah chooses to let them in .

    @BlackAzizAnansi I’ll suggest anything by T Kingfisher not on the basis that I’ve read it, but on the reactions of those that have.

    @BlackAzizAnansi I’m about 25% through “King Sorrow” by Joe Hill and it’s solid so far. Reminiscent of his dad’s stuff in the 80s without being a copy but he does drop in a few references. This thing is about the size of the unabridged “The Stand” so be prepared

    @BlackAzizAnansi The Road. It’s horror if you’re a father.

    @BlackAzizAnansi if you're not familiar with Stephen Graham Jones, his stuff is all weird as fuck and wonderful. I also liked, um, The Apparition Phase by Will McLean (pair of twins tries to prank their classmate that their house is haunted, it gets *weird*). Thomas Ligotti is a classic that I've found a lot of people haven't read, too. His short stories are fun.
