I'm super proud of the fact that my website has no tracking, no cookies*, no registration/sign-up and no ads. It's rare in today's internet, and that's a shame. (*there's 3 necessary cookies on the frontpage due to the mailing list provider, SendFox, and its captcha)

  • @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place That's something I am super proud with my website, too. Made sure to make it as primitive as possible so I could get away with 0 cookies. At this point this is more important to me than most other features. :)

  • @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place I can appreciate that. I'm also kind of proud of not having a "modern" website but a static old school website with zero tracking and zero bullshit.

@kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place Mine has an oldschool message board that requires registration, and fake ads that I host myself and are just a snippet on a 30 minute curl script. No tracking though.

  • @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place A while back, after going to my own webpage and HATING the experience because what Adsense had turned it into (automatically by the way). The modern web, especially on mobile, is such a toxic experience. Later that week I dropped Adsense and Google analytics and all cookies from the site. I still have affiliate links to bundles/assets but I feel that stuff is win/win and nowhere near as obtrusive/obnoxious.

  • @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place Nice. Do you make plenty of money from donations or something to not have to nake money from ads and/or worry about finances?

  • @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place I feel the same way about my website. Just because we have faster data speeds and more computing power these days than we used to, that doesn't mean we have to take advantage of—or abuse—it all the time, everywhere.
