  • This perfectly captures why relying entirely on #VibeCoding is bad. When prompting an LLM completely replaces fundamental understanding, we aren't training engineers, we are training slop operators. Without genuine domain expertise, software development becomes a house of cards. "A massive wave is rolling towards us. A wave of unimaginable proportions and with devastating consequences for the economy and society. The wave of incompetence." - A. Bulling The original qu...

  • Commentor: But are you going to pay me to eat me: Yes, but this is a 100% on-site position in Iowa building farm robots disrupting the quaint industrial era idea that you have to work for food. https://bsky.app/profile/zuuldaffs-pizzeria.bsky.social/post/3msrhwwjy6c2n

  • @landley The problem I have with *BSD is the license ecosystem just encourages bigger badder actors to do wholesale ingesting of BSD licensed code and strip the copyright and never contribute back to the community. There was one point where GPL enforcement meant you could not just grab the linux kernel and pull an Apple BSD to MacOS makeover and never release any new code. Maybe the answer here is security updates and proving you have the ability to have humans actually respond to critical zero...

  • https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/The-Hidden-Tradeoffs-of-a-US-Diesel-Export-Ban.html Well I guess if you wanted to end worldwide dependence on oil this would be a good way to do it. I for one welcome our new diesel export ban and follow-on 12% reduction in refinery capacity, oil drilling, and CO2 emissions.

  • I have so many mixed feelings about this https://www.figure.ai/news/f-02-decommission On one hand, if you're gonna do something dumb and cinematic with an arc furnace, this is definitely the thing to do. Now let's be real. If figure is using commercial cloud GenAI models, this statement is a load of astronomically stupefying idiocy: "Decommissioning a fleet of robots full of custom-built actuators and other intellectual property is no easy task. We needed to dispose...

  • “It’s legal in the US for 14 year olds to have paid jobs” is not remotely a new phenomenon. I just keep seeing people actively make things up about what the laws were before, and what they will be under these new bills. Which isn’t the same as saying I support the new bills - just that it feels like a big portion of “my team” is lying or else doesn’t know what they’re talking about

  • is there a way to block a username across all instances, rather than block a particular user on one instance, or a whole instance? I've gotten ten "follows" from the same spam account duplicated across random instances, always with the same username #mastodon #fediverse #mastodonhelp

  • I am sure this serves some important purpose, but the number of apps that have turned the "x" button in the upper right hand corner into basically the equivalent of "double extra minimize" is very annoying - having to go manually end the process in task manager if I *actually* want to close an app is a pain

  • @the_arto discord is the main offender I have in mind!

  • It’s still a live possibility that I’ll leave here for the new place at some point. I want full text search and quote tweets, and I want a number of specific twitter users who are not here but are going to the new place. Mastodon could be great, but the people who think Mastodon is already great make that seem unlikely. And if you’re one of those people, I’m glad you have a place that’s how you like it! And many of you wanted us new folks to leave all along, it’s seemed, so yay for you there

  • And with that, I have turned in what is certainly my last term paper of the semester and probably my last term paper ever. What a load off the shoulders.

  • First harvest of the year!

  • The last three years have seen, I believe, a stratospheric increase in the use of a rhetorical position that has always been unfortunately common on the internet (and, I suppose, elsewhere.) “The only reasons anyone could disagree with my position on this topic are mental or moral deficiency.” There are plenty of specific toxic behaviors that are less common here than elsewhere. But decentralization does nothing to reduce this particular dehumanizing and dispiriting trend - it’s worse here.

  • The iphone mini has aged into quite a nice dumb smartphone. The energy consumption while idle still seems quite low (good job apple), but if you start doomscrolling on it you can feel the battery hit. Better close that app!

  • my hair is just way too big, time to fix that

  • Kinda funny that one lab is letting you use their credits to access chinese models while the other is putting up blog posts about how scary chinese models are. Didn't really see this split coming, but I guess that's the cannibal king for you.
