On commence à utiliser la tonne de prunes qui mûrit. J'en ai déjà assez. Ma tante vient mercredi pour faire des confitures. Je vais faire des fruits au sirop aussi et des compotes

@theblufnews@mastodon.social EXACTLY! Those abuses, ICE, the high error rate, the company defying city orders to turn the cameras off, and the fact that the people don't want our tax dollars wasted on this... there's a reason there is so much sympathy for those who cut the cameras down. This is what the cowardly fascist types don't get: we aren't boot lickers who wear the wrong size shoe to avoid questioning Dear Leader. And we won't stand for this.

From Fidel to Franco: Why Communist Cuba Mourned the Death of the Fascist Caudillo. Andrés Pertierra explains how the news of the three days of national mourning confused many in 1975 and still irritates Cold War narratives today. https://ieg.hypotheses.org/3786

Digitising People: The Ethical Use of Historical Data. Alleiah Kall writes that any attempt to decolonise the archive needs to go beyond the inclusion of marginalised voices and the sanitisation of metadata. https://ieg.hypotheses.org/4095

There are rumors going around that #MitchMcConnell voted by (ouija board?) proxy today in the senate. Technically that is true, but the vote didn't count. I too think that when we have proof he's been dead since June some people need to face legal consequences. https://www.wlky.com/article/mitch-mcconnell-senate-vote-committee-farm-bill-1/73378426

Got #debian installed on my wife's computer. Been running #Xubuntu for years, but / ran out of space and I couldn't upgrade; could barely update. And, I am not a fan of snaps at all. Anyhow, back with Debian after about 20 years or so --- after #Gentoo and #MandrakeLinux (yeah, it was a while ago), Debian was one of my go-tos. Often one of the first I would recommend. Problem now is: I set up #Japanese input for my wife years ago. No idea what I did. Need to figure out again.

Final week of summer break for me. Finishing up my final #CyberSecurity course also. And, need to prep for next #AdultESOL term --- need to redo some stuff and update the workbook (again). Lots of other things still to do: want to get #SolarExpats beta published; need to update #2076SengokuAmerica to beta 2; and have a bunch of other smaller apps and whatnot to publish before school starts. It is going to be a busy and very fun week.

spent much of the day working on my #CyberSecurity presentation about #CopyFail #Linux #kernel vulnerability. About 20 slides; I have 7 minutes. No problem. Tomorrow, I need to finish the other homework for the class.
-
Working on Week 11 lab write up. Need to add all the citations and references to my #CopyFail presentation slides (when did bibtex become biber???? God, I'm old.) Also finishing up the course reflection for this, my final #CyberSecurity course. Five courses, 20 credit hours of master's level graduate courses over about 15 months. So, ofc, I'm going to start a practicum for Orten Gillingham #reading instruction from next week. OG+#EnglishLearners = great? #K12 #K12Educ...

submitted final assignment for my final #CyberSecurity course. Decided not to continue to finish the MS because the 5 courses I did are enough for me to teach for #Ohio #CollegeCreditPlus program. Not planning to leave #education anytime soon. I suspect that cybersec training could use a dose of #k12 real-world pedagogy, though, and I will be doing some projects to help with that. Hope to start with school staff.

Partisan lean rankings are based on data from either @davesredist.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy or @statenavigate.org@bsky.brid.gy. Some states only have 1 page with both competitive and Unlikely Heroes candidates listed (but categorized as such). A few states aren't listed at all due to not having legislative races this year.
-
🧵 PROBLEM: You understand how vitally important STATE LEGISLATIVE races are, since they control things like voting rights, gerrymandering and so much more...but there's over 7,000 of them and you have no idea which ones are competitive! SOLUTION: Blue26.org/state 1/ State Legislative

Damn, @toxi seriously nerd-sniped me to consider starting that home-region terrain rendering thingie that's been rolling around in my head for decades :D E.g. I just checked what's available now for free, and there's 1x1m terrain data for download from the Saxon government. here's a random hill-shaded 2x2km tile (I just let claude cobble together a python+numpy script to 'hillshade' the data (because the tiff itself just comes out white in the mac...
