“The low-rez #TuringTest that captured popular discourse is profoundly misleading. It's the unsound foundation of a worldview that renders you incapable of distinguishing your understanding of your spouse from their phone's autocomplete function. It's the self-serving rationale that leads you to declare yourself a proud stochastic parrot. …#AI Extending rights to nature reliably makes the world better, but extending rights to constructs makes the world far worse (Exhibit A is corporate #personhood) (obviously).” @pluralistic@mamot.fr https://pluralistic.net/2026/08/03/andor/

Tired: Turing test to determine if the thing on the other end of the communication line is sentient and/or human. Wired: test if an "AI" LLM is sentient by seeing if it can correctly identify whether the other end of the communication line is Sam Altman, or an LLM simulacrum of Sam Altman. (Yes, most humans would also fail this test.) #AI #LLM #TuringTest #AltmanTest #SamAltman #simulacrum #NotHuman

Replying to @johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz
@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz "Did Turing every discuss how well flattery works for winning the imitation game?" Oh, excellent. You've earned the Pithy Remark of the Year 2026 award. (Yes, I dare the rest of year to prove me wrong!) #RichardDawkins #TuringTest #GenerativeNarcicsm #noLLM #StopTheAICorruption #PithyRemarkOfTheYear
