Last night I didn't want to do my taxes... so I installed @prosodyim@fosstodon.org on my LAN switch, a #MikroTik RB4011
It was hypothetically easy (install&enable Containers, follow https://prosody.im/doc/docker to deploy on eMMC, forward the ports, add a certificate), so I played it on hard mode with a #punycode domain
Biggest challenge: MikroTik won't let you paste "☝" in a terminal
2nd challenge: finding a compatible client

Si bien está funcionando desde el 1 de noviembre, es la primera vez que le "doy pa delante" aquí porque considero que ya esta lo suficientemente "maduro" como para dejarlo crecer.

I have tried to deploy #Snikket. Gave up after I didn't manage to convince it to not manage TLS certificates itself.
I have tried to deploy #Prosody, Snikket's underlying project. Gave up after I didn't manage to configure it enough for it to be happy.
I have tried to deploy #ejabberd. Gave up after I realized how underdocumented and confusing the configuration is, convinced I wouldn't be able to secure it enough.
Is there really no good #XMPP server that would just work? I am annoyed.
