Louise Michel still detained in port On Thursday our rescue ship MV Louise Michel entered the Sicilian port of #Pozzallo. 6 Survivors from a previous rescue were disembarked by a coastguard vessel. Since then our ship has been blocked from leaving port under the so called Piantedosi decree. The authorities accusation implies that we could have gone to the port of #Catania which would have taken us below our safety reserves of fuel. We will not jeopardise the safety of the survivors on board, the crew and the ship, by ignoring navigational standards just to play Italys political games against sea rescue ships and people on the move. Sicilianews24.it: Ragusa, Carabinieri sequestrano deposito di rifiuti pericolosi I Carabinieri del Nucleo Operativo Ecologico di Gela, in collaborazione con la Stazione di Santa Croce Camerina e il personale dell’ARPA Sicilia di Ragusa, hanno denunciato in stato di libertà un 43enne ragusano per abbandono di rifiuti pericolosi. L’operazione è stata supportata da un elicottero del Nucleo Elicotteri dell’Arma di Fontanarossa, grazie al quale i militari hanno individuato un’area di circa 7.000 metri quadri, riconducibile all’attività imprenditoriale dell’uomo, adibita a officina meccanica. All’interno erano presenti rifiuti di ogni genere, inclusi materiali pericolosi: pneumatici, parti di veicoli, carrozzerie dismesse, oli esausti, pezzi di calcestruzzo, frigoriferi, containers e tubature in plastica e metallo. I rifiuti erano esposti alle intemperie senza alcuna protezione, creando un deposito incontrollato a cielo aperto. A seguito del sopralluogo, l’area è stata sottoposta a sequestro preventivo e affidata in custodia giudiziale al proprietario. L’Autorità Giudiziaria di Ragusa ha convalidato il sequestro, e ora toccherà al vaglio giurisdizionale stabilire la responsabilità dell’uomo e le eventuali conseguenze penali ed economiche derivanti dall’illecito. The operation was supported by an helicopter from the Arma’s Fontanarossa Squadron, thanks to which military personnel identified an area of approximately 7,000 square meters, attributable to the man’s business activity, used as a mechanical workshop. Inside were waste of every kind, including hazardous materials: tires, vehicle parts, scrapped car bodies, used oils, concrete pieces, refrigerators, plastic and metal containers and pipes. The waste was exposed to the elements without any protection, creating an uncontrolled open-air deposit. Following the inspection, the area was subject to a precautionary seizure and entrusted to judicial custody of the owner. The Judicial Authority of Ragusa validated the seizure, and it will now be up to the judicial body to determine the man’s responsibility and any resulting criminal and economic consequences from the illicit.
