Leao, nightmare in Turkey: 21 balls lost in the 4-0 win against Trabzonspor. The press is massacring him and a video with "Salako" is going viral on social media. Rafa Leao’s Turkish adventure started terribly. Following the 4-0 defeat to Galatasaray at Trabzonspor, the former Milan player was at the center of criticism for a performance that the numbers brutally depict: 90 minutes on the field, 65 balls touched, 21 lost and four shots without ever finding the net. He completed 27 passes out of 38, won 6 duels out of 11, and ended with 5 successful dribbles out of 9. The evening at Papara Park was dominated by Mohamed Salah, who scored a hat-trick and an assist for Noah Saviolo’s goal. A merciless comparison. Leao, on the other hand, left his mark primarily in the negative statistics. And the figure of 21 lost possessions quickly circulated through Turkish media. Opinionist Sinan Engin described Leao as “laubali,” meaning overly nonchalant, also criticizing his body language during the 4-0 and even evoking the case of Wilfried Zaha, another major signing who arrived in Istanbul with huge expectations. Levent Tüzemen also used the comparison with the former Crystal Palace player to describe the Portuguese’s start. Meanwhile, on social media, a montage of Leao's errors and worst plays against Trabzonspor began to circulate. The song "Salako" is playing in the background – a reference to the 1974 Turkish film with Kemal Sunal featuring a naive and “foolish” character, making the comparison sarcastic. The moment weighs even more considering the figures of the operation: Galatasaray paid Milan €38 million and guaranteed Leao €10 million net per season for four years. However, after four official appearances in his new jersey, the record remains at zero goals and zero assists. The article “Leao, nightmare in Turkey: 21 balls lost in the 4-0 against Trabzonspor.
