Q4: #MakersHour has jettisoned the solid rocket motors. What's your favourite tool, and do you have any novel tool storage solutions?
My small Japanese knife. It's too big to be a peeler, and too small to be a chef's knife, but it has a wonderful feel in my hand.
I'm not the best at storage, truth be told.

Q3: #MakersHour is go for staging. I miss Maplin, particularly not being able to go and browse for parts and inspiration. How do you plan your makes, do you let available parts dictate your method?

Nah, the idea dictates the parts. I get excited. I buy the parts. Then I don't complete the project.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A5: My soldering iron some given to me by my Dad in the 1980's and is still one of my most used tools. I also have a pair of wire strippers he gave me. Most of the rest of my tools I've bought myself as I value quality over quantity. #MakersHour
Thank you all for joining in with MakersHour tonight.
It has been a bit quieter than usual, I hope we are still doing ok.
Anyway, feedback if not.
Hope to see you all next week.

I am picky too, especially with tools.
One Christmas I asked Sue to get me a 3mm chisel for Christmas, except I needed it for a job first.
So Sue bought it, I used it, then she wrapped it for Christmas. 😁

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social If someone *insists* on buying me something, they get specific instructions and a link with a note that says “do not deviate from this”.
“I just thought…”
Nope. Don’t think. Not required. Just follow the instructions.

Yes, When I first started studying furniture making, my then partner's family were trying to buy me all sorts or crappy tools in ignorance of what I actually needed. I had to tell them to stop.

Q5: Is there anything you use all the time in your makes that somebody else gifted/found for you?
A5: Erm…not sure. Don’t think so. I try to deter people from buying me making gifts, especially tools! I’m quite picky!

There are a million memes about not being able to work without coffee. What do you 'need' to be able to work effectively?
I need to be awake!
Seriously, sometimes I am really tired, and that makes it dangerous to start work.
The other thing is music. I do like having my play list of music.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A4: Sleep mainly. No late night making as it prevents me sleeping well and I get less done in the long run. A good* breakfast to start the day is also essential. #MakersHour
*Includes good coffee.
