RE: https://cupoftea.social/@MakersHour/116971018220047406 A5: Predictably (for me) it would be the John C. Campbell Folk School. As a cross-discipline / polycrafty person there is at least one workshop being hosted there on an given day/week by somone who has dedicated their life to honing those skills. And the co-best thing about being there is the communal good vibes with all of the other learners and instructors at the activities outside of the workshops. So yeah if I was granted something like that, send me to Brasstown, NC 😅 @MakersHour@cupoftea.social #MakersHour

Completely forgot #MakersHour last night and had meant to share that I blocked my mini knitting (the silk one is now cast off but not blocked yet). The blue Lacey one is a shawl pattern but it has come out a bit big - the two tone garter is the size of a one twelfth scale double bedspread. Sewing scissors for scale. #knitting #DollsHouse #No52

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q4: learned a skill on holiday? A4: 20+ years ago, before YouTube, I learned a lot of cosplay crafting techniques from panels at anime conventions. At more recent events and travels, not really. I don't actively seek that out. But a few years ago when my family was visiting me, I treated my mom and sister to classes at The Crucible (a local metal + glass oriented maker space). (Photos from that attached) #makershour

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q5: makers trip? A5: this is recency bias, but from what's been filling my timeline, #EMFCamp would be my current answer. (My original maker dream trip 25 years ago was Burning Man and now that's a routine for over a decade) #makershour

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q5: If you could have an all-expense paid maker holiday, where would you go and why? #MakersHour I think a big GC to the wood store, tool shop, and time to do projects would be enough. I don't necessarily need to go somewhere to make, I need the freedom to execute.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q4: Have you learned a new maker skill while on holiday? Is it something you seek out? #MakersHour I'm always seeking to learn. I used to help my dad do projects while on vacation. But I feel a bit like harry chapin these days... I take PTO to do DIY projects, which I learn and hone skills, so I say yesish.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A5 Ooh, so many to choose from. A trip to Japan to work with a smith on smelting steel and forging would be amazing. If it ever became safe to visit the US again, working with Adam Savage in his workshop would be incredible. I've considered a trip to partake in viking ship building project. But not managed to make it happen yet. #MakersHour

Q5: If you could have an all-expense paid maker holiday, where would you go and why? A5: Putting my issues with holidays aside, I’d go to either the place they filmed Handmade: Britain's Best Woodworker in the Brecon Beacons, so I could use their amazing workshop or to where they film The Woodland Workshop in the New Forest so I could make and hang out with the team as they seem like a great bunch. #MakersHour @MakersHour@cupoftea.social

Q5: If you could have an all-expense paid maker holiday, where would you go and why? A5: This is a fantasy anyway, so I'll take some liberties. I'd go to Wellington, NZ, and visit Weta. I'd get the Adam Savage package, where Peter Lyon teaches me to grind a sword, and Richard Taylor lets me try on all the movie armor. Why? These films and the accompanying BTS featurettes ignited my passion for costumes to crazy degrees. Star Wars started it, LOTR crystalized it. I could be happy reproducing things from those films for the rest of my life. I feel like being there in person would teach me things I could never get through a screen. #MakersHour @MakersHour@cupoftea.social

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q5: If you could have an all-expense paid maker holiday, where would you go and why? #MakersHour I would go to the Center for Metal Arts in Johnsburg, Pennsylvania and take a class on metal forging.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A5 That's a tricky one, I think it would be a travelling holiday visiting lots of interesting museums and other makers. #MakersHour

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q4: Have you learned a new maker skill while on holiday? Is it something you seek out? #MakersHour My most recent holidays are cycle touring so most of the time its just cycling, eating and sleeping. Brain is just focused on being in the moment.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q3: Have you ever made something to make a journey of any kind easier? #MakersHour I've extended my mudguard on the front of my bike with an old inner tube. Bike and myself stay clear when cycling through puddles etc..

Q1: Welcome! Introduce yourself and tell us what you’d like to be making right now. (Feel free to show pictures of what you’ve been up to as well!) #MakersHour Hello there, I'm Debbie. I've got a shirt that I have had cut up for about 4 months and I'd love to get over the procrastination and start making the thing.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q2: Do you make things while travelling (business/vacation)? What is in your ‘must bring’ toolbox? #MakersHour When I'm travelling on the train, then I love taking a sock knitting project. All I need to bring is the wool, circular needle, phone with the pattern on it and a small pair of scissors. I normally have a sewing kit in my handbag because I'm known to repair little things when needed and have been known to do instant little mends.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A4 Holidays are often family occasions so I usually need to rein in my maker activities. I can't think of any time where I picked up new skills, often new books though #MakersHour

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A4 I'm not doing very well with these answers! No, "not really", to this one too :) Holidays tend to be holidays from making too. Although finding inspiration from new places is always nice. #MakersHour
