European Historical Ceramics I'm a potter in the Southern Netherlands/German border region. A region with a tradition of slipware ceramics dating back to the 16th Century. It's not just acheologists that put shards together.
Until the end of the 20th C. the 'Topfflicker' or potmender was a regular tradesman on markets in Central-Europe.
Pots that were considered precious were put together using glue and clamps or put together with a knittwork of metal wire.
