Kheibar Shekan: workhorse of Iran's missile arsenal with a fitting name
In 628 CE, Muhammad's outnumbered and logistically outmatched forces conquered the heavily fortified Jewish oasis of Kheibar in Arabia using complex, asymmetric siege warfare tactics. The victory was a defining moment in his military career, and one of the most impressive conquests of Late Antiquity.
👉 Fourteen hundred years later, the Iranians named a missile after the battle — the Kheibar Shekan (lit. 'Castle Buster' or 'Fortress Breaker') — and have been using it extensively to pummel US and Israeli forces across the region ever since.
The road-mobile, single-stage, shoot-and-scoot, solid-propellant missile has a 1,400 km range, a 500-550 kg high-explosive payload, a maneuverable reentry vehicle, and advanced satellite and active terminal guidance. The payload accelerates to speeds up to Mach 10 in the terminal phase, making interception next to impossible.
