Unfortunately with the U.S. government in fascist hands and the leaders of #tech fully onboard, greedy and eager to drink up vast military and police-state expenditures and testing out some of their cuter ideas in Palestine and other places full of live human subjects, it seems as if the initiative for proper #space exploration and careful investigation of the possibilities of life on other worlds may need to pass out of American hands. Fortunately, China and India and Japan and Europe have all been making great strides in their space programs and achieved some notable successes, e.g. the ongoing #Hayabusa2 mission. (cont'd)

It's a day of fab asteroid news! 🤩 Image drop from yesterday's Japanese Space Agency JAXA high-speed close flyby of asteroid #Torifune (~450m across). This is the extension mission of #Hayabusa2, after its successful 2020 asteroid-sample collection from Ryugu. IT'S ROCK N' FLYBY TIME! Now on an extended mission, JAXA's #Hayabusa2 will attempt flyby observations of asteroid Torifune at around 18:30 JST tonight (07/05) 🛰️👀🪨 Turning a rendezvous mission into a flyby spacecraft is not trivial, requiring crazy high precision navigation for a close approach. But this is exactly what we might need to do to protect the Earth on short notice. It's time for a very fast practice run... 🏃‍♀
