Okay #Fediverse. @WahFo@meow.social the husband-dragon and I need your help with an unusual thing we need to #DIY a solution for.
We have a vent that goes into the outer wall of the house/apartment we're renting. The problem is, a squirrel lives in there, and we need her to -not- live in there.
She has, in the past, chewed on our electrical wires that she can get to in the wall and caused outages for certain circuits. It's dangerous for the squirrel and very frustrating for us!! The landlord has tried a DIY solution that didn't work. We need ideas for how to block the vent so she has to find another home, but still make it so there is still air flow out of the vent.
As pictured, the vent has a big cover that hangs down and hides a round hole that goes into the wall. Ideas for how to block or cover the vent are very welcome!
Things we have tried to get her to leave:
🐿️ The landlord tied wire around the vent cover, holding mesh over it (she chewed it up and removed it)
🐿️ Scaring her away from it (she is persistent and goes in the minute we give her an opening)
🐿️ Stuffing A T-shirt in the hole (she pulls it out)
🐿️ Placing a strong telescoping butterfly net in a way that blocks the hole (she knocked it down)
🐿️ Using both the butterfly net and the t-shirt together (she managed to wiggle into the vent just enough to pull the T-shirt out and squeeze into the hole above the net)
We have thought about expanding foam but we think she might chew through it.
Any other ideas? The landlord doesn't seem to know how to fix it and if we can give him a solution to try, I think he'd try it.
Thank you so much!! :D
