Today I'm heading to Paris to participate in Wikimania Paris, the international Wikimedia conference. I'm looking forward to talking with the wiki community about the Wikimedia Australia Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDSov) Guide and its companion white paper CultureStrong Platforms: Setting the Standard at Wikimedia. https://elliottbledsoe.wtf/announcing-the-wikimedia-australia-indigenous-content-guide/ #CultureStrong #Wikimania #Wikipedia #WikimediaCommons #WikiData @wm_au@wikis.world

For knowledge to genuinely be open the owners of that knowledge must want it to be. There is much work to be done by open communities to reconcile the goals of free and open knowledge with respect for Indigenous content and honouring self-determination. These documents are one step in that direction. https://elliottbledsoe.wtf/announcing-the-wikimedia-australia-indigenous-content-guide/ #CultureStrong #Wikimania #Wikipedia #WikimediaCommons #WikiData @wm_au@wikis.world

Congratulations to Dr Terri Janke, Shevaun Wright and Matilda Langford for the immense effort that went into the documents. I've put some thoughts down about these important documents if you are interested in learning more: https://elliottbledsoe.wtf/announcing-the-wikimedia-australia-indigenous-content-guide/ #CultureStrong #Wikimania #Wikipedia #WikimediaCommons #WikiData @wm_au@wikis.world
