1:45h for an evening off this week, getting informed and entertained? Didn't know host Aaron Bastani, nor that political journalists can be this climate-savvy. He and Kevin Anderson leave the watered-down, at best half-true phrase soups in traditional media behind to cook a nourishing climate potluck. Here's where our debate begins. Really begins to matter. Kevin's typical meta level bits also show up ( eg, global -8% per year CO2 emissions, countries like UK -13%/a for keeping within a WellBelow2-budget) but he also forages in many more corners, political, historical, sociological, psychological. 1.45h, enjoyable, thought-seeding climate-entertainment. If a Green Growther doesn't know Kevin's work, this is the introduction I'd hope they'd listen to closely. I'm familiar with Anderson's brilliant mind. And was impressed by the host. Aaron was able to open a space for Kevin's mind to shine. Almost didn't watch it. Assumed I already know all that Kevin is able to say in an interview. But it's surprisingly different when a climate-savvy "political commentator" sets the goal posts. And it differs from what Kevin's brilliant mind on its own would choose to feed an assumed audience in 1:45h. Summary, not my interpretations but what was really said: In 5 years time, it'll be "2C is dead", and certain civilisation collapse, unless we reclaim the power to put things right. The great unknown in this equation Kevin sees in societal dynamics. And because he can't claim to foresee what will happen in that area, he chooses to continue to inform whoever is willing to listen of the requirements and of the obstacles. The true requirements. And the true obstacles. The true requirements are not what the UK's CCC and most experts are letting on, and also not what the traditional media puts in their phrase soups. Traditional media and their chosen framings are indeed one of the true obstacles Kevin identifies. I didn't know that the Greek-speaking world of the Bronze Age stopped writing after the civilisation collapsed. No written testimony exists for 500 years after the collapse, did you know that? 500 years… That collapse was also caused by a climate change. [my addition: A Milankovic-driven climate change.] Caused by climate change and a leading elite too arrogant to see their own demise as realistic prognosis and too arrogant to decide to make changes for changing that outlook. At one moment, I recall Kevin equating today's economists with the arrogant astrologist priests of civilisations past 😁 Does the scope of the 1:45h interview become apparent from this summary? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBFos_T7cT0 #KevinAnderson #ClimateChange #Civilisation #history #CO2budget #TechHopium #CCS
