"There is a bit of schadenfreude on Twitter right now about Anthropic being hit by the US government’s export control directive to suspend access to Fable and Mythos. Anthropic and their leadership have spent a lot of time and effort describing its own technology as dangerous and in need of strict controls and regulation. Now that the US government appears to have taken that framing seriously and told them to turn it off for foreign nationals I can see why people are making fun of that situation. I understand the reaction, but I urge you to not entertain it for too long because it is a giant distraction. The important part is not that Anthropic’s safety language came back to bite them but the line the US government is drawing: this technology is apparently so powerful that only Americans should have it. We are on a clear path towards a world of division. One should think that if a model is too dangerous for everyone, then it is too dangerous for Americans too. Instead the US is treating these models like weapons that need to be controlled. It is not just about capabilities, it is about racism and nationalism. If you have the wrong passport, you are not to be trusted. This is a very different thing from safety, and Europeans should pay close attention to it." https://lucumr.pocoo.org/2026/6/13/americans-only/ #USA #Protectionism #Trump #MAGA #DigitalSovereignty #AI #Anthropic #Claude #ClaudeFable #ClaudeMythos

BBC News | Champion ethical hacker warns AI tools like Mythos will make competing harder AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Champion ethical hacker Valentina Palmiotti, known as “Chompie,” won the 2024 Pwn2Own Berlin competition by exploiting systems for prize money, but she warns that powerful new AI tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Mythos could soon make human‑only hacking contests impractical. While AI assistants like Claude Code currently help her and other researchers work faster, the emergence of more advanced models promises to automate many “lower‑hanging‑fruit” bugs, leaving only the very best hackers able to discover novel vulnerabilities. Fellow champion Orange Tsai sees AI as a useful research aid that can free up time but believes human creativity will still be essential. Both experts agree that if AI‑driven tools are responsibly released to defenders, they could tilt the balance against offensive hackers, though criminals are already experimenting with AI to accelerate attacks. The overall sentiment is that AI will raise the bar for security research, benefitting defenders while making traditional bug‑bounty hunting increasingly challenging. qwant news | White House fights Anthropic's plan to expand Mythos tool that experts fear could cause AI doomsday AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. The White House is pushing back against Anthropic’s proposal to widen access to its powerful Claude Mythos AI tool, warning that expanding the rollout from the current handful of government users to an additional 70 companies—bringing the total to 120 under “Project Glasswing” with firms such as Amazon, Google and JPMorgan—poses serious security risks. Anthropic itself has warned that Mythos could be used to hack electric grids, power plants and hospitals, and recent reports say a few users have already breached the system. Trump‑administration officials also doubt Anthropic has enough computing capacity to serve both the government and the new corporate clients, and the White House is wary after the Pentagon terminated Anthropic’s contract earlier this year over concerns about unrestricted AI use. Meetings between Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and White House officials aim to balance innovation with safety, while the company continues to grant early access to security researchers and strike deals with major tech firms to increase its compute resources.
