So now that I have an EV... I am learning the arcane art of charging it.

This is relevant in Australia only, in the US you can probably pull enough amps to burn the house down becuse you have freedom joules (Or hectopascals per cubic inch or whatever 'freedom units' you wallies use)

  1. "Granny charger", thats what comes with your EV in the boot. You can pull about 1.4kW out of it on a 10A domestic circuit. My car takes about 22 hours to charge.

  2. 15A wall socket, wired to your (modern switch), you can pull about 2.4-2.8kW out of it about 10 hours for a full charge. This is the most economical charge option, Charger is about A$300 and install of a 15A socket, A$300 if you suck off the sparky.

  3. Wall box. 7A - about 4-6 hours. About A$1300, but if you are putting in No.2 in your house, ask for a 30A cable.

  4. The "Fast chargers" are the comemrcial ones that will force feed as many Joules into the gob of your car as it can take.

Your #EV has cirtuitry that checks how much it can pull without burning your house down.

Note: If you have Photovoltaics on the roof, get a wall charger thats compatible with your unit (Needs to talk to each other for max benefit)

We are now in Leicester again. The 50kW CCS charger in Knighton Park hasn't been working for weeks now, a communications problem. Last week, I used the 50kW charger at Lidl. So I went there again this evening. The charger cable had a taped repair on it, but the screen said it was ok. So I tried it and got 11kWh in before it died. I got another 1.8kWh on the Type 2 slow charger before giving up. It isn't good when you can see the copper in the CCS cable! I'll try the expensive rapid charger at McDonalds, tomorrow. #EV #Charging

The EU common charger rules come into force for laptops. EU rules on common chargers apply to laptops from today. It means that all new laptops sold in the European Union must now support USB-C charging. In December 2024, the rules came into force for mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, videogame consoles, and portable speakers. https://mediafaro.org/article/20260427-the-eu-common-charger-rules-come-into-force-for-laptops?mf_channel=mastodon&action=forward #EU #Charging #Laptops #Notebooks #Tech
