My reflection on COVID-19 and the witch hunt against medical professionals like Dr. Fauci: This was me in July 2020 at the local hospital, where I was working 15-hour shifts at night in the COVID ICU. I had just suited up to go into a room to hold an iPad in front of a dying patient so their family could say goodbye. Families were not allowed to come to the hospital to see their dying loved one, so we found a way to help them say goodbye. If you are cheering the attacks on Dr. Fauci, you are the worst kind of person and certainly no Christian. I worked from late February to September of 2020 in that same COVID ICU. In early August 2020, I suffered a mental breakdown and was experiencing major anxiety and panic attacks. I had to leave my work at the hospital because it got so bad I could no longer function at the hospital. I sat in the office of the director of the chaplaincy program and cried. I felt I had failed them, the patients, and myself. Thankfully, after nearly 6 years of therapy, I am healing. To hear people attack Dr. Fauci and our wonderful nurses, doctors, orderlies, CNAs, LPNs, respiratory techs, chaplains, medical examiners, funeral directors, embalming technicians, and others who put their own health and families in danger to help others is so disappointing and depressing. It puts me right back at the hospital in 2020 after Trump claimed it was all a hoax and the crowds of people who thanked us a month earlier were there protesting and spitting on us. And yet, even knowing this would be the outcome of all our labor and our sacrifice, I have yet to meet one single medical professional who would not do it all over again. That is why they are called professionals. They care more about your life, the life of your family, and the lives in our communities than you do.
