@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai in fact #CableTheft at #DeutscheBahn is so rampant that they nowadays #DNA-marker the cable jackets and #Isotope-marker the #Copper in it (like #Euro|cent coins because they exceed their material value and the ECB &) DB wants to prevent people from just melting them and selling it ot to scrap merchants. in fact many #CableThieves got arrested at scrap dealers when they tried to sell the stolen cables to said scrapyard as the operators called the police when they found out.

Obviously even licensed Ku-Band links cannot compete with CWDM or DWDM fibers, but still... So yeah, DNA & Isotope-marking is really common just to deny thieves the profits…
