My advice to new activitypub devs:

  • be bold: ship what big tech won't.
  • consent first: opt in, never opt out.
  • keep evolving: your v1 federation code will be wrong, and that's fine.
  • federate the future: interop over lock in, every time.

8 years in and I still come back to these.

Outside my apartment, three new buildings (2 restaurants and a T-Mobile retail store) are being built from a former weed-infested field, and my windows overlook the whole property. Two of the buildings were built lickety split and are basically ready to be furnished and open for business. The third one in the middle is quite the opposite. It appears their work ethic is "Whew! Nailing those two boards was hard work. Let's stop for the day!" (or the same for a single Tyvek sheet). Scaffolding surrounds the whole building, and part of the outside is Tyvek and the other bare boards, and the windows and doors are bare. I guess they got a contract with unlimited labor and no completion bonus. The whole property was supposed to be open for business a month ago. Instead they have fenced off the latter two buildings until the middle one is ready. Fascinating to watch! #Builders
