New York - Gli Us Open di tennis, privi di Jannik Sinner e con molti italiani ormai eliminati, sono entrati nella fase calda del torneo e la risposta dei newyorkesi è stata travolgente: affluenza record agli impianti di Flushing Meadows e stand gastronomici presi d’assalto nonostante i prezzi siano, come da tradizione, proibitivi: servono quasi quaranta dollari, circa 35 euro, per un’insalata.

E dieci euro per un piccolo box di patatine fritte. Ma la gente si mette in cosa per ordinare. Molte partite si disputano nei campi laterali, una situazione che favorisce la presenza di pubblico grazie ai biglietti giornalieri. Ma con il passare delle ore, i veri match si disputeranno nei campi centrali, e allora assistere alle gara sarà quasi proibitivo: già adesso un posto all’Arthur Ashe Stadium, nelle file in “piccionaia”, costa oltre 200 euro. La prossima settimana, i prezzi raggiungeranno quotazioni da brivido, anche oltre tremila dollari.

Many matches are played on the side courts, a situation that favors public attendance thanks to daily tickets. But as the hours pass, the real matches will be held in the central courts, and then witnessing the competition will almost be prohibitive: even now a seat at Arthur Ashe Stadium, in the “crowded” sections, costs over 200 euros. Next week, prices will reach breathtaking levels, even exceeding three thousand dollars.
