🌿 New strain in the DSMZ collection: Herbivorax alkaliphila sp. nov.
This bacterium was isolated from a salt lake and can break down plant cellulose even in salty conditions – only the second known bacterium with this ability described from such habitats. It sheds light on how microbes help recycle plant material in extreme environments.
