According to Pakistani media reports, the United Arab Emirates has requested Pakistan to repay a loan of $2 billion as soon as possible. Pakistan has now, out of necessity, decided to repay the loan by the end of the current Gregorian month. Pakistani media outlet GeoNews reported, citing the Pakistani government's Ministry of Finance, that the government was paying the Emirates 6 percent interest on the loan. The Ministry of Finance stated that the United Arab Emirates had previously extended the loan annually, but extended it for one month and then two months until December 2025.
