Russia indeed does have ties to pro-Russian, anti-Banderite groups in Crimea. It’s why they voted to join Russia instead of getting ethnically cleansed by Kiev. Russia was invading militarily Crimea well before 2014, when you stated the ethnic cleansing against the russian population began. So we can see the so called “ethnic cleansing” as a measured response against a coup being carried out, which is a normal reaction any state would have should it territorial integrity being compromised.
