This generation grew up being told everything that's wrong with the world, what is destroying us and killing us, the injustices transpiring all over, and everything that is preventing us from being happy. In turn, we project our misery onto the circumstances of the world which we have no control over. These aren't things that don't affect us personally. Often they do, and it's exactly that which gives us our threadmil: perpetually waiting for the world to fix itself so we finally have the right to be happy. There is no righteousness in being miserable because the rest of the world told you should be.
